June 2001
Olympic National Forest near Sequim and Port Angeles
This Red Squirrel called at me over and over again. Was it trying
to drive me away?
I enjoyed camping out by myself.
It was about a three hour hike from where I parked my vehicle to the
survey site for the following morning. So I came prepared to
camp. Unfornatuneately I assumed the tent had a cover for
insulation because I was told it was complete before I borrowed it from
a
coworker. It didn't and I was pissed off that I took just a
moment to check if it did before I left. Rather than going back
and
repeating the survey the next day I decided to stay and rough it.
So at over 7,000' feet I froze my A*$ off. I completed the
survey
that morning though.
The moral of the story.........never assume: It's the mother of all
mistakes.
