West Palm Beach Waste Facility

There were thousands of White Ibises that were
roosting or nesting at this dump!
This White Ibis, Eudocimus albus, is at least a third
year bird.
During mating season the face and the upper bill turns
blood red.
These birds fly with alternating rapid wing beats and
gliding.
With their decurved bill they probe mud and peat for
invertebrates and frogs to eat.
They produced honk-like grunt calls whenever we
disturbed their colonies.
